The Colorado Avalanche face the St. Louis Blues with both teams looking to improve from rough stretches. The Avalanche have a 13-10-2 record but have lost four games in a row while the Blues have a 12-15 record and have lost seven of their last 10 games. Both teams are looking to improve within the Central Division and the Western Conference and the upcoming game looks to be a good one as a result.

The Avalanche have been carried by their offense all season, scoring 3.08 goals per game but a pile-up of injuries has left the offense hapless recently, scoring only five goals in the last four games. Valeri Nichushkin, Mikko Rantanen, and Alex Newhook have scored 29 goals and 26 assists while defensemen Cale Makar and Devon Toews have added seven goals and 32 assists from the point but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only four active skaters have six assists or more while only four active skaters have six assists or more and opposing defenses can easily eliminate the injury-plagued offense.

The offense has struggled but the defense has stepped up, allowing only 2.84 goals per game including only two goals in their recent shootout loss. Makar and Toews have combined for 3.5 defensive point shares and 80 blocked shots while Erik Johnson and Samuel Girard have combined for 2.0 defensive point shares to give the Avalanche multiple great defensive pairings. In addition, goaltender Alexandar Georgiev has been great in the net with a .920 save percentage and a 2.65 goals-against average on 601 shots.
