UTEP has started the season solidly at 6-2 and have won six of seven games after opening the season with a loss at Texas. The Miners defeated NAIA opponent Northern New Mexico College 87-50 last Saturday afternoon in their last matchup. The win pushed UTEP to 6-0 at home on the season as Shamar Givance 14 points led four Miners in double figures. UTEP drilled a season high 11 3pt field goals while shooting the long ball at 44% for the game. They also forced 27 turnovers in the game and had a 27-point halftime deficit en route to an easy win.

“No disrespect to Northern New Mexico College, but what happened today should have happened. I think they've got a pretty good team. They've got a Division II win under their belt already” UTEP head coach Joe Golding said. “I was more concerned with how we'd handle (bouncing back) from Wednesday night. We got our butt kicked Wednesday and I was anxious to see how we&#3 9;d respond. I really liked how our guys responded.

UTEP owns a +7.3 scoring margin edge on the season and scores just over 74 points per game. UTEP is shooting the ball 47% from the floor while holding the opposition to just 42% shooting. The Miners, despite their efforts against NNMC, are not a very good 3pt shooting team. UTEP is shooting just 25% from 3pt range while holding the opposition to just 29% from long range. The Miners like to play in the paint as evidenced by their nearly 18 free throws made per game on average. UTEP is forcing 20 turnovers per game, one of the top marks in the country but they are also committing 15.5 turnovers per game.
