The Buffalo Sabres face the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second game of a back-to-back between the two teams after the Penguins took the first game 4-3. The Sabres have a 12-14-1 record and are near the bottom of the Atlantic Division. The Penguins have a 15-8-4 record and with eight wins in their last 10 games have leaped near the top of the Metropolitan Division. Both teams are looking to improve within the Eastern Conference and the upcoming game looks to be a good one as a result.

The Sabres have shown promise this season behind a remarkable offense that is scoring 4.00 goals per game. Tage Thompson and Jeff Skinner have scored 33 goals and 38 assists to lead the top line but the entire offense has looked great this season. Alex Tuch, Dylan Cozens, and Jack Quinn have scored 29 goals and 41 assists while defensemen Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power have added nine goals and 33 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has been awful, allowing 3.69 goals per game including 13 goals in the last three games. While Dahlin and Power have combined for 3.1 defensive point shares, the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. Moreover, with the Sabres playing the second game of a back-to-back, they'll turn to backup goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen who has struggled with a .853 sav e percentage and a 4.15 goals-against average on 170 shots.
