The Drake Bulldogs will head down to Virginia and face the Richmond Spiders in non-conference action this weekend for the Robins Center on ESPN. These two schools met for the first time last season in Des Moines, with Drake coming away with the 73-70 victory.
Drake improved to 8-1 after defeating Omaha in Cedar Falls. The Bulldogs wore the Mavericks down after a contested first half to pick up their third double-digit victory in four games. Drake is scoring 75.1 points per game, while shooting 47.3% from the floor, and 34.1% from deep.
Tucker DeVries will look to outplay Tyler Burton here. The 6’7 forward has scored 21 points or more in six of nine games, with a season-high 29 points in the win over Wyoming. DeVries leads Drake in scoring (20.3), while grabbing 6.1 rpg. Veteran point guard Roman Penn erupted for 32 points versus Indiana State, and he averages 10.8 ppg and 3.8 apg. Fellow veteran guards Garrett Sturtz (9.7 ppg, 6.6 rpg) and D.J. Wilkins (8.4 ppg) remain in the fold, giving Drake one of the wisest teams in the nation.
