Philadelphia Flyers (9-13-5) vs. Vegas Golden Knights (19-8-1)

The Philadelphia Flyers start a four-game road trip Friday, December 9, 2022, when they face off against the Vegas Golden Knights in the cross-conference showdown at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, with the puck drop at 10:00 PM ET.

These two foes meet for the first time this season, and the Flyers surprisingly swept the Golden Knights in 2021-22. Vegas is a heavy home fave, so let’s take a closer look.

The Philadelphia Flyers suffered a 4-1 defeat to the Washington Capitals this past Wednesday, finishing a five-game homestand with a 2-3-0 record. Two days after beating the Colorado Avalanche 5-3 as +170 underdogs, the Flyers laid an egg as +115 dogs, blowing a 1-0 first-period lead. The Capitals scored four unanswered goals including a couple on an empty net.

“We just struggle generating offense,” Philadelphia coach John Tortorella said. “It’s a problem here. Some are confidence, some are we just struggle offensively.”

The Flyers outshot the Caps 30-27 and went 1-for-3 with the man advantage. Philadelphia owns the lowest-scoring offense in the NHL, tallying 2.41 goals per contest. The Flyers rank 29th in power-play percentage (14-for-84), 30th in shooting percentage (8.3%), and 31st in 5-on-5 high-danger scoring chances (41.0%).

Carter Hart guarded the cage last Wednesday and yielded a pair of goals on 25 shots. It was his fifth consecutive start, and the 24-year-old netminder fell to 8-8-4 with a 2.79 GAA and .911 save percentage on the season. Felix Sandstrom is waiting for his chance, and he’s 1-5-1 with a 2.72 GAA and .889 save percentage in 2022-23.
