New York lost for the third time in four games as they were unable to slow down an onslaught of goals from the Blues in their previous contest. Against St. Louis, New York struggled on both ends of the ice early and their late-game surge proved to be too little, too late in the contest. In the opening period, the Islanders held a 13-6 edge in shots on goal and skated off tied at one after 20 minutes of play. After falling behind 1-0, Noah Dobson tied the game with his eighth goal of the season at 17:52 off assists from Mathew Barzal and Oliver Wahlstrom. The Islanders held a 14-13 edge in shots on goal in the second period but were outscored 2-0 to trail 3-1 at the second intermission. In the third period, New York held a 13-9 edge in shots and were outscored 4-3 to wind up with the loss. After giving up two goals in 13 seconds to trail 5-1, the Islanders finally got going. Hudson Fasching cut the deficit to 5-3 with his first of the season at 14:43 off assists from Matt Martin and Brock Nelson. Just 21 seconds later, Jean-Gabriel Pageau sliced the deficit to 5-4 with his seventh of the season at 15:04 off an assist from Parise. That was as close as the Islanders would get as they su rrendered a pair of empty-net goals to end up with the loss. Ilya Sorokin made 21 saves for New York, who owned a 40-28 advantage in shots on goal, in the loss. He’s expected to get the start between the pipes in this contest.
