The New York Rangers face the Colorado Avalanche with both teams hoping to improve from rocky starts to the season. The Rangers have a 13-10-5 record but have won back-to-back games while the Avalanche have a 13-10-1 record but with three losses in a row have fallen to the middle of the Central Division. The Rangers are looking to continue to make up ground in the Metropolitan Division while the Avalanche hope to rebound within the Central Division and the upcoming game should be a good one as a result.

The Rangers have looked promising with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.11 goals per game with 11 goals in the last two games. Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, and Chris Kreider have scored 34 goals and 54 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has also stepped up. Vincent Trocheck, Alexis Lafreniere, and Barclay Goodrow have combined for 20 goals and 23 assists while defensemen Adam Fox and K'Andre Miller have added eight goals and 32 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has stepped up recently but the defense has carried the Rangers all season, allowing only 2.86 goals per game. Adam Fox and Ryan Lindgren have combined for 3.9 defensive point shares and 89 blocked shots while K'Andre Miller, Jacob Trouba, and Braden Schneider have combined for 3.8 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. In addition, goaltender Igor Shesterkin has been great in the net with a .913 save percentage and a 2.58 goals-against average on 595 shots.
