The Seattle Kraken face the Washington Capitals with both teams heading in opposite directions to start the season. The Kraken have a 15-7-3 record and with seven wins in their last 10 games, have the second-best record in the Pacific Division. The Capitals have a 12-12-4 record but have won back-to-back games to improve within the Metropolitan Division. The Kraken are looking to remain near the top of the Pacific Division while the Capitals look to continue to climb out of the bottom of the Metropolitan Division, making the upcoming game a pivotal one for both teams.

The Kraken are having a great season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.60 goals per game with 30 goals in the last seven games. Andre Burakovsky, Jordan Eberle, and Matthew Beniers have scored 25 goals and 44 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has also been great. Jared McCann, Jaden Schwartz, and Daniel Sprong have combined for 25 goals and 21 assists while defensemen Vince Dunn and Justin Schultz have added seven goals and 25 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has struggled, allowing 3.16 goals per game. Adam Larsson and Vince Dunn have combined for 3.2 defensive point shares and 81 blocked shots but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to carry the puck into the offensive zone and find open shots on the net. In addition, goaltender Martin Jones has struggled in the net with a .888 s ave percentage and a 2.97 goals-against average on 474 shots.
