Washington Capitals vs. Philadelphia Flyers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 12-7-2022

The Washington Capitals face the Philadelphia Flyers with both teams looking to improve from rough starts to the season. The Capitals have an 11-12-4 while the Flyers have a 9-12-5 record and have only won two of their last 10 games. Both teams look to improve in the Metropolitan Division and the upcoming game looks to be a good one as a result.

The Capitals are having a rough season with their offense struggling and scoring only 2.74 goals per game with only seven goals in the last three games. Alexander Ovechkin, Dylan Strome, and Evgeny Kuznetsov have scored 21 goals and 42 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has been awful. Only four skaters have scored six goals or more while only five skaters have eight assists or more and opposing defenses can eliminate the hapless offense as a result.

The offense has let the Capitals down but the defense has also struggled, allowing 3.07 goals per game. Nick Jensen and Trevor van Riemsdyk have combined for 3.1 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has been awful, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Charlie Lindgren has struggled with a .895 save percentage and a 3.32 goals-against average on 257 shots.
