The St. Louis Blues face the New York Islanders with both teams heading in opposite directions to start the season. The Blues have an 11-14 record and with four losses in a row, are near the bottom of the Central Division while the Islanders have a 16-10 record and are near the top of the Metropolitan Division. Both teams are looking to make up ground within their divisions and the upcoming game should be a great one as a result.

The Blues are having a rough season with their offense struggling and scoring only 2.83 goals per game. Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou have scored 14 goals and 29 assists while Pavel Buchnevich and Vladimir Tarasenko have added 16 goals and 23 assists to the top two lines but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only six skaters have scored six goals or more while only six skaters have eight assists or more and opposing defenses can eliminate the top-heavy offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has let the Blues down this season, allowing 3.75 goals per game. Calle Rosen, Justin Faulk, and Niko Mikkola have combined for 3.3 defensive point shares but the rest of the defensive unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Thomas Griess has struggled in the net with a .907 save percentage and a 3.57 goals-against av erage on 237 shots.
