The Washington Capitals and Edmonton Oilers face off on Monday in an NHL showdown at the Rogers Place. When these two teams faced off on November 7th it was the Capitals that secured the 5-4 victory.

The Capitals come into this game with a 10-12-4 record overall and away from home they have gone 3-8-3. On Saturday against the Calgary Flames the defense was awful giving up five goals, and that led to the three goal defeat. John Carlson finished the game with three shots on goal and one goal. Washington is averaging 2.73 goals per game while their defense is giving up 3.12 goals per game. The offense is ranked 27th in the league, and it’s going to need to be better going forward.

On the other side of this matchup is the Oilers who sit with a 14-11-0 record and they have gone 7-6-0 at home so far this season. On Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens, the Capitals scored five goals, and that was enough to win by two goals. The Oilers are averaging 3.48 goals while their defense is giving up 3.6 goals per game. The offense is ranked 8th in the league, and when they have struggled it’s been the defense that has let them down. Connor McDavid has scored 21 goals and added 26 assists so far this season. In this game the Oilers need the offense to be good and put pressure on the Capitals' defense.
