Oklahoma City opened up a five-game road trip as they faced off with Minnesota Saturday night, picking up a win to kick things off on a positive note. The Thunder entered Sunday in the basement of the Northwest Division, 4.5 games behind the Nuggets for the top spot in the division race after their second straight win. Against Minnesota, Oklahoma City led by three after the opening quarter, by as many as 11 in the second quarter and by six at the half. The Thunder were outscored 44-34 in the third quarter to trail by four heading to the final stanza and were down three with 8:44 to play before reeling off a 12-0 run to take a 119-110 edge with 5:52 to go. Oklahoma City never saw their lead drop below six the rest of the way to earn the victory. The Thunder shot 51.6% from the field, including 11 of 26 from three-point range, and forced 23 turnovers to offset allowing Minnesota to shoot 52.8% in the game. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led Oklahoma City with 33 points and six assists in the win.

This season, the Thunder are 6th in the league in scoring offense as they average 116.8 points per game on the year. The Thunder look to get more production from Josh Giddey (14.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 5.6 assists) and Tre Mann (9.5 points) are other secondary scoring options. Aleksej Pokusevski, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Jalen Williams (10.7 points), Mike Muscala, Kenrich Williams, Darius Bazley and Aaron Wiggins have to be contributors if they hope to have success. Oklahoma City is 20th in the league in field goal percentage as they shoot 46.4% from the floor as a team on the year. The Thunder are 19th by hitting 11.5 threes per game and 22nd in three-point shooting by hitting 33.8% of their attempts from beyond the arc.

Chet Holmgren, the second overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft, will miss the season after suffering a Lisfranc injury he suffered in a pro-am event during the summer. Muscala (finger) has been out since November 21: he was day-to-day Saturday so watch for updates on his status leading to tip-off.
