The San Jose Sharks face the Buffalo Sabres with both teams looking to improve from slow starts to the season. The Sharks have an 8-15-4 record and are near the bottom of the Pacific Division while the Sabres have a 10-13-1 record and with only three wins in their last 10 games, have fallen to the bottom of the Atlantic Division. Both teams are looking to rebound in their divisions and the upcoming game looks to be a good one as a result.

The Sharks are off to a slow start to the season with their offense struggling, scoring only 2.92 goals per game. Timo Meier, Logan Couture, and Tomas Hertl have scored 32 goals and 37 assists while defenseman Erik Karlsson is adding 11 goals and 21 assists from the point but the rest of the offense has been awful. Only five active skaters have scored six goals or more while only six skaters have added nine assists or more and opposing defenses can limit the top-heavy offense as a result.

The offense has struggled but the defense has let the Sharks down this season, allowing 3.42 goals per game. Erik Karlsson and Jaycob Megna have combined for 2.8 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to carry the puck into the offensive zone and find open shots on the net. With the Sharks playing the second game of a back-to-back, the hope is that backup goaltender A aron Dell can step up in the net as he has saved 29 of the 31 shots he's faced this season.
