The Chicago Blackhawks face the New York Islanders with both teams heading in opposite directions to start the season. The Blackhawks have a 7-12-4 record and are in last place in the Central Division while the Islanders have a 15-10 record but hope to bounce back from back-to-back losses. The Blackhawks look to climb out of the bottom of the Central Division while the Islanders look to remain near the top of the Metropolitan Division and the upcoming game looks to be a good one as a result.

The Blackhawks are having a rough season with their offense struggling and scoring only 2.55 goals per game. While Patrick Kane, Max Domi, and Jonathan Toews have scored 21 goals and 32 assists, the rest of the offense has struggled. Only four skaters have scored five goals or more while only four skaters have added six assists or more and opposing defenses can eliminate the hapless offense as a result.

The offense has let the Blackhawks down but the defense has also struggled, allowing 3.68 goals per game. Jake McCabe and Connor Murphy have combined for 2.4 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to carry the puck into the offensive zone and find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Arvid Soderblom has struggled in the net with a .905 save percentage and a 3.24 goals-against average on 296 shots.
