The Pittsburgh Penguins are on the road as they make the trip to face the Philadelphia Flyers Friday night. Pittsburgh comes in off a 2-1 shootout victory at home over Calgary Wednesday night in their previous contest. Philadelphia was edged 3-2 in overtime on the road by Washington in their most recent contest Wednesday night. In the last 10 meetings, Pittsburgh owns a 6-3-1 advantage though the Flyers earned a 4-1 victory at home in the most recent matchup on April 24, 2022.

Pittsburgh won their fourth straight game as they outlasted Calgary in overtime at home Wednesday night in their previous contest. The Penguins enter this game 10-7-3, leaving them fifth in the Metropolitan Division, nine points behind New Jersey for the top spot. Pittsburgh is 6th in scoring as they average 3.55 goals per game on the season. The Penguins are below average in their own end, ranking tied for 19th in goals against by allowing 3.25 goals a night. Pittsburgh stands 26th in the league in power play success as they convert 17.9% of their chances with the man advantage. The Penguins are tied for 13th in penalty killing as they successfully navigate 80.3% of their shorthanded situations.

Against Calgary, there wasn’t much offense but the Penguins did enough to emerge with a victory to extend their win streak. The opening period saw the Peng uins hold a 10-8 edge in shots on goal and they took a 1-0 advantage to the dressing room after 20 minutes of play. Jan Rutta opened the scoring with his third goal of the season at 2:09 off assists from Jeff Carter and Danton Heinen. In the second period, Pittsburgh was outshot 17-14 and outscored 1-0 to see the game even at one after two periods of play. Pittsburgh held a 14-8 edge in shots on goal in the third period with neither team scoring, send things to overtime tied at one. In overtime, the Penguins saw each team fire one shot on goal with neither team scoring, sending the game to the shootout. During the shootout, Evgeni Malkin scored in the fourth round after Rickard Rakell and Sidney Crosby scored earlier to secure the win.
