The Colorado Avalanche face the Washington Capitals with both teams looking to improve in their divisions. The Avalanche have a 9-5-1 record and with seven wins in the last 10 games, have leaped into third place in the Central Division. The Capitals have a 7-9-3 record and with only two wins in the last 10 games, have fallen to the bottom of the Metropolitan Division. Both teams are looking to improve in their divisions and conferences and the upcoming game looks to be a great one as a result.

The Avalanche are having a great season with their offense stepping up and scoring 3.53 goals per game with 25 goals in the last six games. Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen have scored 15 goals and 34 assists to lead the top line but the entire offense has looked great. Artturi Lehkonen, Evan Rodrigues, and Logan O'Connor have combined for 16 goals and nine assists while defensemen Cale Makar and Devon Toews have added four goals and 25 assists from the point to put the offense over the top.

The offense has led the way but the defense has also stepped up, allowing only 2.67 goals per game. Makar and Toews have combined for 2.4 defensive point shares and 55 blocked shots to lead one of the best defensive pairings in the league but the rest of the unit has also stepped up with Erik Johnson, Bowen Byram, and Josh Manson combining for 2.0 defensive point shares to add depth to the unit. In additi on, goaltender Alexandar Georgiev is having a great season in the net with a .924 save percentage and a 2.70 goals-against average on 353 shots.
