Washington Commanders vs. Houston Texans Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 11-20-2022

The Washington Commanders (5-5, 5-4-1 ATS, 4-6 O/U) take on the Houston Texans (1-7-1, 4-4-1 ATS, 4-5 O/U) in an inter-conference bout on Sunday afternoon. The Commanders stunned the Eagles with a road win on Monday night. The Texans were charged with a road loss by the Giants last week. These foes last met in 2018 in a game the Texans won 23-21.

The Washington Commanders have fully recovered from the 1-4 start. They have climbed back to the .500 mark after a remarkable 32-21 road win against the Eagles last week in a bout that had the Commanders as 11-point dogs. The Commanders have won four out of their last five including a win against Green Bay and the only defeat in that span was against a hot Vikings squad. The Commanders have covered the spread in four out of their last five games.

Carson Wentz is now eligible to come off the IR after missing four games but it sounds like Heinicke will get the start. The veteran QB was producing before the hand injury, accumulating 1489 passing yards and a 10:6 TD to INT ratio. Taylor Heinicke hasn't posted big numbers, recording 840 passing yards with an 8:4 TD to INT ratio in four games but the squad is 3-1 when he starts.

Antonio Gibson leads the squad in rushing y ards but hasn’t seen nearly as many carries recently. The 24-year-old has 372 rushing yards. It has been Brian Robinson Jr. seeing a majority of the carries. The 23-year-old rookie out of Alabama recorded 86 rushing yards last week and now has 305 yards. Terry McLaurin continues to dominate. The 27-year-old WR has made a whopping 19 receptions in his last three games and logged 128 receiving yards in Philly. He now has collected 737 yards on the season. The Washington offense has eclipsed 20 points in just one out of their last three games.

The Commanders' defense has been the key factor in their wins. They limited the potent Eagles to only 265 total yards last week which is no easy task. The pass defense ranks 15th while the rush defense is especially effective, standing 12th. Star DE Chase Young remains out of action but could return next week. Washington is scoring an average of 19.1 points, landing them 24th. They are allowing an average of 21.3 points, good for 15th in the league.
