Brooklyn will play the final game of its four-game road trip when it travels to Portland on Thursday night. The Nets opened the trip with a win over the Clippers before losing to the Lakers and Kings in their next two games. Portland has won four of its last five games, including a 117-110 win over San Antonio on Tuesday.
Brooklyn is off to a slow start in 2022, as some off-the-court drama has been the prevailing headline. The Nets lost five of their first six games before winning five of their next seven, but they have suffered back-to-back losses to the Lakers and Kings since then. Their performance against Sacramento on Tuesday was one of the worst of any team this season, as they gave up 153 points in a 32-point loss. It was the Kings’ highest-scoring game in nearly 30 years, and it was the most points allowed in a regulation game in Nets history.

Kevin Durant scored 27 points to lead the Nets in scoring for the ninth straight game. They are currently playing under head coach Jacque Vaughn. Brooklyn allowed 94 points per game in his first six games as coach, but it allowed 134.5 points per game in its losses to the Lakers and Kings. The Nets are still playing without point guard Kyrie Irving indefinitely due to a team-imposed suspension for refusing to say he had no antisemitic beliefs. Irving was suspended for a minimum of five games and has now missed seven. The Nets rank No. 18 in scoring (110.8) and are facing a Portland defense that is No. 6 (107.6).
