Colorado Avalanche (8-5-1) vs. Carolina Hurricanes (10-5-1)

The 2022-23 NHL betting action continues Thursday with this interconference battle when the Colorado Avalanche travel to take on the Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.

This contest pits two Stanley Cup contenders. Colorado is beginning a three-game road trip in Carolina, which includes stops in Washington and Dallas. The club saw their four-game winning streak come to an end on Monday with a loss to St. Louis. Carolina is returning home after splitting their two road contests, including a 3-0 victory in Chicago on Monday. The Avalanche defeated the Hurricanes on November 12, 4-1.

The St. Louis Blues erased a one-goal deficit with three unanswered tallies to defeat Colorado on Monday, 3-2. The Avalanche (8-5-1, 8-6 ATS) head to the road to begin a three-game trip. They are 4-3-0 away from Denver this season. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak, which included a 4-1 victory over the Hurricanes last Saturday.

“I feel like we did a lot of good things. We did the right things to win that game,” Makar said after his two-assist performance. “Just a couple unfortunate errors by me, and an unfortunate bounce off my stick and in the net. Like I said, that's hockey. You're going to probably get those back at some point, but for us, definitely an easily winnable game. I feel like we did everything right. Just didn't come out with it.”

The Avalanche went 1-5 on the power play in the loss, but it took a 6-on-3 to be able to do so. Colorado had a two-man advantage with a little over four minutes left in the contest and pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker, finally able to pull within a goal. The Avalanche are first on the power play at 37.0%. Cale Makar assisted on both tallies for Colorado and now has 18 points. Mikko Rantanen has 14 points over his last five games, including seven goals.
