It has been a rough season for the New Mexico Lobos as they are 2-7  overall and bring up the rear in the Mountain West Conference's Mountain division at 0-5. The Lobos come into this game having lost six straight games, and all of them were double-digit blowouts. Last Saturday, they lost at Utah State by the score of 27-10. They failed to cover the spread as a 14.5 underdog. The actually played halfway decently, as they only gave up 280 yards, however, they only gained 258 yards themselves and had a paltry 42 passing yards. Two lost fumbles really hurt them, as they lost the turnover battle 2-0. And Utah State converted 4 of 4 fourth downs.

The Lobos were a one man show as Nathaniel Jones rushed for 146 yards on 7 yards a carry and the Lobos lone touchdown. He accounted for almost two thirds of the team's total yards. Quarterback Justin Holoday only passed for 42 yards, but he ran for 63 yards. The Lobos only average 16 points per game, which is one of the lowest totals in the FBS as they rank 127th. Their defense is a little better as they allow 25.1 points per game, which ranks 58th in the country. The Lobos are pretty healthy, with only one player listed on the injury list, tight end Trace Buckler.
