3M Open Field and Course
Players at the top of the betting board at 26/1 or less to win the 3M Open include defending champion Tony Finau (No. 19), who is the top ranked player in the field. But Sungjae Im (27) is a clear challenger having finished co-runner-up in last year's event 3-shots behind Finau, along with No. 36 Emiliano Grillo, who won the Charles Schwab event in May and travels back from England off a T6 finish in The Open Championship.
And No. 15 Cameron Young tees it up this week off a T8 finish at The Open, along with No. 29 Hideki Matsuyama, who finished T13 in the British Open. Sepp Straka is up to No. 25 in the OWGR after his T2 finish at The Open while Justin Thomas' struggles continue. He's down to No. 24 in the world rankings off a cut at The Open, and on the outside of the top 70 qualifiers to make the FedEx Cup Playoffs with just two tournaments left. Thomas is sitting No. 75 in the Fed Ex Cup Standings.
This is the fifth edition of the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities, which previously hosted the Champions Tour event. A 2018 renovation included narrowing fairways, adding bunkers and adding/repositioning tee complexes as the top Tour circut arrived for the first time in 2019. The parkland course features Bentgrass fairways and greens, deeper rough a nd water in play on 15 holes.
3M Open Picks & Predictions
Last year's runner-up Sungjae Im fits this week with his consistent strokes gained stats and TPC comp course history. In fact, in his eight rounds played at TPC Twin Cities, Im ranks No. 1 in the field in SG: Total, and top-5 in Tee-to-Green, Off-the-Tee and top-12 in Ball Striking, Short Game, Around the Green and Putting.
Tony Finau has the next most improvess strokes gained profile at the course, but Sungjae Im's current form and Par 4 Efficiency stats, improved putting and top-5 field ranking in Birdies or Better Gained make the 25-year-old South Korean a top win challenger again this week.
Pick: Sungjae Im (+1600) to Win and/or finish Top-10.
