Golf is a game of inches and there is likely no one on tour who has embodied the phrase more this season, than Will Zalatoris.
Heading into the tournament last week, Zalatoris had yet to win on tour but was not for a lack of chances – he came up just short in multiple majors this year alone and was the highest Official World Golf Ranking player without a notch in the win column.
B ut when the playoff began Sunday, Zalatoris came up with two fortuitous breaks when a tree stopped his tee shot on the second playoff hole from going O.B. and impossibly his ball came to rest on the rock wall instead of bouncing into the water on the 3rd playoff hole, where he bogeyed and won the tournament. His first win also propelled him to first in the FedExCup standings heading into the second of three stops in the FedExCup Playoffs.
